For Professionals

Carerpreneurs provides practical, flexible enterprise support for informal carers and former carers who are exploring self-employment or home-based business as a realistic alternative to traditional employment.

The service is designed to fit around caring responsibilities, fluctuating health, and limited capacity, and works well alongside Adult Social Care, carers’ services, and VCSE provision.

Support includes:

  • Clear, accessible digital toolkits covering business ideas, self-employment basics, HMRC registration, and simple budgeting

  • Flexible, self-paced delivery with no fixed courses or attendance requirements

  • Optional light-touch one-to-one guidance

  • A wellbeing-aware approach focused on confidence and sustainability

  • Signposting to specialist services where required

Carerpreneurs is not a clinical, therapeutic, or employment-readiness service.
It works best as a preventative, early-stage option and can be suitable for carers’ direct payments or discretionary support.

Referral pathway – Carerpreneurs

Carerpreneurs may be considered for informal carers or former carers who are exploring self-employment or small home-based business activity as a flexible alternative to traditional employment.

The service provides early-stage, practical enterprise guidance, delivered primarily through digital resources, with optional light-touch one-to-one support where appropriate. Support focuses on confidence, realistic goal-setting, and understanding the practical aspects of self-employment, rather than employment readiness or formal business training.

Carerpreneurs is not a clinical or therapeutic service and does not provide regulated legal, benefits, or financial advice. Where specialist input is required, individuals are signposted to appropriate services.

The service may be suitable as:

  • A preventative or early-intervention option

  • A complementary service alongside carers’ centres and statutory provision

  • A flexible use of carers’ direct payments or discretionary support, subject to local decision-making

Referrals are typically made by signposting the individual to the Carerpreneurs website or by providing the one-page professional information sheet.
